Position: Field Organizer/Project Coordinator The Oregon Fair Trade Campaign (ORFTC) seeks a full-time Field Organizer/Project Coordinator for a seven-month position, possibly becoming permanent. ORFTC is a coalition of Oregon-based labor, environmental and human rights organizations working to replace “free trade” agreements with a progressive vision for international trade. ORFTC is a relatively small organization that works statewide; as a result, there is a high priority on leadership development among our volunteer base in the field. For more information about the organization and the scope of our work, please visit: www.citizenstrade.org/orftc.php ResponsibilitiesThe Field Organizer/Project Coordinator is responsible for planning, coordinating and executing the field program of ORFTC. This position focuses on building a statewide base of workers, farmers, small business owners and others to fight for fair trade policies in their communities as part of a broader legislative effort. This involves interviewing people who have been affected by free trade, building leadership, developing networks and systems of communication, organizing public events and mobilizing for actions. ORFTC prioritizes our field program outside of Portland-proper, focusing heavily on rural and suburban communities. ORFTC is based in Portland, but will consider applications from anywhere in Oregon. - As the public face of ORFTC in the field, must have excellent communication skills, with experience developing organizational relationships, giving public presentations, and coordinating public events.
- Must be comfortable traveling periodically for at least 2 weeks at a time; working in diverse environments; bridging cultural gaps between communities; and working independently.
- Must be highly organized, with strong record-keeping skills.
- Must be willing to participate in fundraising.
- Must have a car and a valid driver’s license.
- Fluency in Spanish is a very strong plus.
