California Trade Justice Organizer<\/b><\/h2>\n

Citizens Trade Campaign (www.citizenstrade.org<\/a>) is seeking an experienced organizer to lead its California-based campaigns on the pending Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) and on other trade policy matters.<\/p>\n

The California organizer will work with labor, environmental, family farm, consumer and other social justice organizations to educate and mobilize community leaders and constituents to participate meaningfully in these policy debates and directly influence policymakers\u2019 decisions.\u00a0 This is contract position currently funded for 2 years, with the potential to transition into a permanent California director position.<\/p>\n

Principle Responsibilities<\/b><\/p>\n

The California organizer will first-and-foremost be responsible for leading legislative campaigns on the TPP and other trade policy.\u00a0 This includes:<\/p>\n

* Meeting with the leadership of various labor, environmental, family farm, consumer, faith and community organizations to solicit their involvement<\/p>\n

* Convening leaders from various organizations via face-to-face meetings and\/or conference calls to develop, update and execute Congressional district-by-district campaign plans to defeat the TPP<\/p>\n

* Organizing public events, conducting earned media and leading other campaign tactics<\/p>\n

* Staying on top of national and local trade policy developments<\/p>\n

* Communicating with California\u2019s Congressional delegation and other elected officials<\/p>\n

* Coordinating regularly with Citizens Trade Campaign\u2019s national staff<\/p>\n

Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to\u2026<\/p>\n

* Identifying key leaders for long-term participation in a permanent California Fair Trade Coalition and building relationships with them<\/p>\n

* Soliciting funds from supportive local organizations and others to aid in short-term and long-term in-state campaigning<\/p>\n

Qualifications<\/b><\/p>\n

Only highly-organized self-starters should consider applying for this position. \u00a0A successful candidate will:<\/p>\n

* Have a deep commitment to and passion for social and economic justice<\/p>\n

* Work well independently and possess an entrepreneurial spirit<\/p>\n

* Have at least three years organizing experience, ideally with legislative campaigns<\/p>\n

* Have experience working with volunteers and developing leadership<\/p>\n

* Have strong communication skills and be comfortable with public speaking and writing<\/p>\n

* Be able to work within a budget<\/p>\n

* Be comfortable working with labor unions, environmental groups and family farm organizations and people of diverse races, sexualities and political backgrounds<\/p>\n

* Fluency in languages beyond English is a strong plus<\/p>\n

Hours, Location & Compensation<\/b><\/p>\n

The position is ideally based in San Francisco Bay Area, but other locations within California could be considered for the right candidate.<\/p>\n

This is a full-time, 2-year contract paying $30,000 – $48,000\/year, with the potential to transition into a permanent salaried position.<\/p>\n
