\n<\/b><\/p>\n

How-To Organize for the Day of Action:<\/b><\/p>\n

(1)\u00a0Pick a Strategic Target:<\/i>\u00a0 We want Congress members to oppose Fast Track. \u00a0Figure out where your U.S. Representative stands on Fast Track, and organize something that either pressures them to come out against it or thanks them for having already come out against it.<\/p>\n

(2)\u00a0Pick a Time: \u00a0<\/i>The Day of Action is Saturday, April 18th \u2014 but any events the week before or week after can be listed as part of the \u201cDay of Action.\u201d \u00a0If you\u2019re going to do a door-to-door canvass, a teach-in or a mass march and rally, that Saturday works great. \u00a0Alternatively, the House is on recess that Friday, April 17th and Congress members may be at their district offices that day. \u00a0A noontime rally or a \u201cdrop in” at their office that Friday may make more sense. \u00a0It\u2019s up to you!<\/p>\n

(3)\u00a0Pick a Location:<\/i>\u00a0Congressional offices are a great site for weekday events \u2014 bringing the pressure directly to your target. \u00a0They are typically closed on weekends, though, and may or may not make sense for a Saturday event depending on where the particular office is located. \u00a0Other possible locations include federal buildings, Chamber of Commerce offices, shuttered factories and mills, border crossings and easily accessible downtown parks.<\/p>\n

(4)\u00a0<\/i>Pick an Action Format:<\/i>\u00a0Are you going to get a few people together to \u201cdrop in\u201d to your target\u2019s office during a weekday? \u00a0Are you going to do a typical rally with speakers and signs? \u00a0Are you doing a Saturday canvass where you go door-to-door in your target\u2019s neighborhood with leaflets? \u00a0A public funeral for jobs, the environment and democracy? \u00a0\u201cBillionaires for Fast Track\u201d street theater? \u00a0A flash mob? \u00a0Or something totally new?<\/p>\n

(5)\u00a0Coordinate with Others & Recruit Cosponsors:\u00a0<\/i>\u00a0Recruit other organizations and individuals to help promote the event by involving them in the planning and asking them to speak. \u00a0If you\u2019re in a state with an organizer listed below, please give them a heads up on your plans.<\/p>\n

(6)\u00a0Spend Most of Your Time on Turnout:\u00a0<\/i>\u00a0List your event online here<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0 Create a Facebook event page. \u00a0Ask others to forward an email about the event to their lists. \u00a0Create a leaflet and distribute it at other events in the days leading up. \u00a0Call through your contacts list.<\/p>\n
