The action you took on behalf of trade-displaced workers paid off.<\/p>\n
Last week, President Biden signed legislation reauthorizing the expired Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) program that provides workers whose jobs are shipped overseas or displaced by imports with job retraining benefits and related support.<\/p>\n
The TAA extension was backdated, such that the nearly 40,000 trade-displaced workers who had been left in the lurch since the program expired should soon have access to it again. And the program is additionally funded through September of this year.<\/p>\n
This victory would not have happened without the dogged effort of our friends at the United Steelworkers and other partner organizations \u2014 and without the support of people like you. The thousands of emails and calls generated late last year are what pushed this over the top. Thank you!<\/p>\n
Citizens Trade Campaign will continue pressing for long-term funding for the TAA program, and more importantly, to transform the corporate-rigged trade system that destroys good-paying jobs in the first place.<\/p>\n
In the meantime, we wanted to share the good news about the victory you made happen. As one friend in the Steelworkers told us this week, TAA’s reauthorization will help keep working families in their homes after a difficult layoff that’s no fault of their own.<\/p>\n
