Trade for Working Families<\/em> (H.Res. 1286)<\/a><\/strong> is a new measure in Congress based on three simple truths:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Corporate-driven trade deals have been a disaster for working people at home and abroad;<\/li>\n<li>President Trump&#8217;s &#8220;Billionaires First&#8221; trade approach has failed to create jobs or raise wages; and<\/li>\n<li>We need a new model for trade that actually works for working people.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em>Fair Trade for Working Families<\/em> offers a blueprint for trade that puts the interests of working people and communities ahead of greedy corporations. \u00a0This includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Fair Wage\u00a0<\/strong><b>Guarantees. <\/b><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\"><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">Guarantee fair wages across manufacturing, food processing, call centers, back-office service providers and other trade-impacted professions and ensure fair treatment for all workers regardless of nationality.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Preventing Job Offshoring. <\/strong><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">Remove incentives for companies to offshore<\/span><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none white-space-prewrap\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\"><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">jobs through strong labor, wage and environmental standards backed by enforcement mechanisms that punish corporations that violate people\u2019s rights.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Safe Food &amp; Family Farms.<\/strong> <span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\"><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\"><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">Enforce strong food safety protections, mandatory country-of-origin labeling, policies that require farmers to be paid fair prices and those offering ready access to affordable, healthy foods for consumers.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Stopping Abuses by Big Tech.<\/strong> <span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\"><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\"><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">Eliminate so-called \u201cdigital trade\u201d rules that restrict personal privacy, data security, A.I. accountability, Right to Repair, civil rights and anti-monopoly policies and that facilitate the offshoring of digital economy jobs.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Ending Corporate Special Rights. <\/strong><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">Dismantle the \u201cInvestor-State Dispute Settlement\u201d (ISDS) system and<\/span><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none white-space-prewrap\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\"><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\"><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">other policies that give transnational corporations special rights beyond those allowed by U.S. law and the Constitution.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li><strong>A Healthy Environment. <\/strong><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\"><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\"><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">Establish strong, easily-enforced standards on air, water and ground pollution and those promoting climate solutions for current and future generations.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Affordable Medicine.<\/strong> <span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\"><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\"><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">Protect governments\u2019 rights to use compulsory licensing to address public health needs and to negotiation for lower prescription medicine prices, while excluding monopoly protections for Big Pharma.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Real Public Oversight<\/strong>. <span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">Require trade negotiators to publish their proposals for public comment before entering trade talks with other countries, to share draft composite texts in real time, and to subject any trade deals to mandatory votes by Congress.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Introduced by fair trade champion Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro, <i>Fair Trade for Working Families&#8217;\u00a0<\/i>endorsers include Citizens Trade Campaign, the AFL-CIO, United Steelworkers (USW), International Association of Machinists (IAM Union), United Auto Workers (UAW), Sierra
