Andy Gussert, CTC National Director

Andy has worked in progressive politics for almost two decades, first serving Senator Paul Simon in 1990. Before coming to Citizens Trade Campaign, Gussert was elected as State Federation President of AFT-Wisconsin, a labor union serving over 550 job classifications including professors, lawyers, teachers, pharmacists, and public employees. While there, he reminded members if your job can be privatized, it can be outsourced. Before that, Gussert served as state director of CTC’s Wisconsin Fair Trade Coalition.
A veteran of over two dozen campaigns spanning 18 years, Gussert wrote Pollie Award winning television ads and worked extensively in campaign management, field organizing, polling and messaging. As Chair of the State Senate Democratic Committee in 2000, he helped bring Wisconsin Democrats to a majority of 18 seats for the first time in 8 years. During the 1990s, he served as director of a state government research agency, as manager of an Attorney General’s Campaign and as a consultant for the Clinton Presidential Campaign in Wisconsin.
Before being elected at AFT-Wisconsin, Gussert also worked as national project director for ALICE, an information clearinghouse set up to promote high road policies to help workers. Gussert co-wrote the ALEC expose found at ALEC Watch, a website he started while directing the State Environmental Resource Center. As an attorney who graduated cum laude, Gussert also possesses a strong background in legal, legislative, public policy and budget work.
When not working in Washington D.C., Andy Gussert can be found in Madison, Wisconsin.
